![]() These different genres complicate the interpretive process, because the original authors wrote with different styles and with different orienting principles in mind. One of the interesting aspects of doing biblical interpretation is the fact that multiple genres exist in Scripture. The truth of the word to the local context. The biblical culture and historical context. We’ll start, though, with a review of all the principles we examined in the last chapter: Thus, in this chapter, we will also look at the issue of ancestor veneration, both looking at the cultural background of this practice and attempting to examine and apply a few biblical texts that could help Christians navigate this issue. In the last chapter, when examining principle we saw that in addition to starting from specific biblical texts, some situations exist where it is necessary to start with a specific cultural practice in mind. And, similar to the previous chapter, the goal is not to provide an exhaustive exegetical explanation, but rather it is to show how the principles can help us in any cultural context and to show the complexity of doing exegesis when people from multiple cultural backgrounds are Thus, in this chapter, my goal is to illustrate the principles by examining four specific texts. At the same time, though, I recognize that some readers need more concrete examples to see how the principles function and interact in relation to some specific texts. In chapter I tried to give examples and illustrations while also explaining each of the principles. This chapter is my attempt to answer that student’s question. After listening patiently for a long while one animated student finally spoke up and said, “We need examples if we’re going to understand these concepts!” Without any real-life illustrations to which they could relate, the students found it hard to follow the lecture. On one occasion one of my students was teaching and, in part because of miscommunication on my end, the student focused the lecture on some complicated theoretical ideas that the students had not been exposed to before. This teaching practice is part of their academic journey as they learn to communicate good content but do it in a way where it educates and equips others to be able to do the same. I frequently give ThM- or doctoral-level students an opportunity to teach.
