![]() These different genres complicate the interpretive process, because the original authors wrote with different styles and with different orienting principles in mind. One of the interesting aspects of doing biblical interpretation is the fact that multiple genres exist in Scripture. The truth of the word to the local context. The biblical culture and historical context. We’ll start, though, with a review of all the principles we examined in the last chapter: Thus, in this chapter, we will also look at the issue of ancestor veneration, both looking at the cultural background of this practice and attempting to examine and apply a few biblical texts that could help Christians navigate this issue. In the last chapter, when examining principle we saw that in addition to starting from specific biblical texts, some situations exist where it is necessary to start with a specific cultural practice in mind. And, similar to the previous chapter, the goal is not to provide an exhaustive exegetical explanation, but rather it is to show how the principles can help us in any cultural context and to show the complexity of doing exegesis when people from multiple cultural backgrounds are Thus, in this chapter, my goal is to illustrate the principles by examining four specific texts. At the same time, though, I recognize that some readers need more concrete examples to see how the principles function and interact in relation to some specific texts. In chapter I tried to give examples and illustrations while also explaining each of the principles. This chapter is my attempt to answer that student’s question. After listening patiently for a long while one animated student finally spoke up and said, “We need examples if we’re going to understand these concepts!” Without any real-life illustrations to which they could relate, the students found it hard to follow the lecture. On one occasion one of my students was teaching and, in part because of miscommunication on my end, the student focused the lecture on some complicated theoretical ideas that the students had not been exposed to before. This teaching practice is part of their academic journey as they learn to communicate good content but do it in a way where it educates and equips others to be able to do the same. I frequently give ThM- or doctoral-level students an opportunity to teach. ![]() To get all the valid character sets, you query them from the V$NLS_VALID_VALUES view as follows: SELECT value FROM Microsoft Windows Traditional Chinese Code ISO 8859-1 West European 8-bit character set Unicode 3.0 Universal character set CESU-8 encoding form Japanese Shift-JIS Character Set, compatible with MS Code Unicode 5.0 Universal character set UTF-8 encoding form The following table shows the common character sets: Character Set ![]() Note that the result is the same as converting the string from the WE8ISO8859P1 character set to the US7ASCII character set. I guess it was mostly the Giants doing well that kept me interested? Maybe also that, this season, football seemed to be just about football. I really got interested in football this season, and that was kind of a surprise to me, since I’ve been losing interest gradually for quite some time now. The Giants lost to the Eagles last night, so my interest in football for this year is mostly done, though I might watch the rest of the playoffs and the SuperBowl anyway. So I guess I’m sticking with minimal cable + TiVo for now, even though TiVo seems to be in a slow death spiral, and my cable provider’s support for CableCARD is probably dicey at this point. And some of the streaming services like Hulu + Live TV include the major broadcast networks, but that costs $70/month, which is way more than Broadcast Basic is costing me. AntennaWeb still indicates that I’d need a major-league outdoor antenna to pick up anything from here. First, it looks like I would still have no luck with an antenna. This news got me curious about what alternative are out there to watch broadcast TV, rather than cable + TiVo, for me. Kind of sad to see this going away, though I hadn’t used it much since I dropped back to the Broadcast Basic cable plan. On a completely different subject, I just got a notification that TiVo is turning off their suggestions feature. (Certainly better than the domain squatters who had been sitting on it every other time I’ve gotten curious about it over the years.) Anyway, they seem like a lovely couple, and I hope they have a great wedding! Turns out that another Heather and Patrick are using it as a website for their upcoming wedding! That’s kind of nice. But, just for yuks, I decided to see what, if anything was at that domain now. Heather gave up the domain name for that,, a long time ago, after Patrick passed away. I was also looking around at the “on this day” links on the sidebar of my blog, and noticed this one, originally linking to the website that my brother Pat and his wife Heather set up. I’d been holding out some hope that Elon would reverse course and turn the API access back on, but I guess not. So I guess I should remove it from my iPhone and iPad and give up on Twitter completely now. I thought I should mention Twitterrific again, as it now seems to be 100% officially dead. Otherwise, just buy your entertainment through iTunes and get your geek on some other way.So it’s Sunday morning again, and I’m futzing around on my laptop, aimlessly, as is my wont. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you plan to regularly transfer tons of programs and you don’t mind going to the trouble and the inferior video quality, Roxio’s software will ultimately save you money. The end result was merely good, not great, video quality, because TiVo limits maximum quality of video conversions to 640 x 480 resolution. Resolution-wise, it’s basically a horror story. The final step was to import the converted video file into my iTunes library and sync it to my iPad, and this is where things went badly. The masters of the school were also often given the opportunity to shape urban spaces with their architecture. However, the focus here was not on the creation of art, but on the design of everyday objects such as wallpaper, ashtrays and furniture. As a reaction to the traumas experienced in World War I, Gropius and his two fellow Bauhaus directors, Hannes Meyer and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, wanted to redesign everyday life in Germany: From then on, young people were given the opportunity to develop their creativity and thereby influence their immediate surroundings. A package is needed which can be installed using the following commands. ![]() In case the physical computer is using WiFi the problem will arise because a secured WLAN uses WPA/WEP hence the GNS3 router will fail to communicate with your WiFi router itself. In this case directly connecting the router to the physical computer’s ethernet port shown in the previous step does not make it work because the GNS3 router will also be needing a public IP address to communicate. Your setup comes under this scenario if your physical machine uses WiFi to communicate with your modem or you are using a modem which assigns a public IP address directly to the physical interface of your computer. (WiFi or physical interface has a public IP address) Connecting GNS3 to the Internet – Scenario 2 That’s all, now scroll down to the last part of configuring NAT and DNS servers. Try pinging a public IP address such as 8.8.8.8, if you ping a domain name such as you’ll receive an “Unrecognized host or address, or protocol not running” error as we have not yet configured DNS. Open GNS3 as an administrator (Windows) by right clicking it and selecting “Run as administrator” or as a root user (Linux) by using the sudo command. This is the simplest means of connecting GNS3 to the internet. In this scenario your physical machine is connected to a modem/router using a RJ45 cable and the ethernet port of your computer has a private IP address assigned manually or via DHCP. (Physical interface has a private IP address) Connecting GNS3 to the Internet – Scenario 1 Apart from making configuration changes to your operating system NAT has to be configured on the emulated router that connects to the internet. But if you are using a WiFi connection/Data card/a device that requires you to assign a public IP on the physical interface getting your lab to access the internet requires a few more commands in Linux or a few more clicks in Windows. If you just have an ADSL modem/router connected to the ethernet port of your physical machine having a private IP address it is very simple to get your lab to the internet. There are many ways to do this based on what internet connection you are using. Connecting GNS3 to the internet is just another step to bring your emulated network lab closer to real gear. |
